Simona Rosati Explores Inner Conflict Through Instrumental Single “Proelium”

A solitary lighthouse standing against a stormy sea becomes a powerful image of inner conflict and reflection in “Proelium,” an instrumental composition by Italian composer and conductor Simona Rosati. The piece invites listeners to explore emotions and memories through orchestral music rather than words.

“Proelium” evokes a nostalgic atmosphere, using the image of a lighthouse resisting the waves as a symbol of personal struggles and contemplation of the past. Without lyrics to define its meaning, the composition leaves room for individual interpretation, allowing listeners to connect with its themes through their own experiences and emotions.

The track reflects Rosati’s approach to instrumental storytelling, in which music communicates ideas and feelings without relying on a verbal narrative. Her work brings the orchestra to the forefront, drawing on the expressive possibilities of strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and piano. These instruments appeared in different combinations throughout Delirio d’Autore, creating a varied musical landscape across its four compositions.

Rosati’s interest in giving music the freedom to speak directly to the listener is central to the project. As she explains, the absence of words can allow people to interpret music more subjectively, finding personal meaning in what they hear. “Proelium” embodies that idea through its association with inner conflict and memories of the past.

A Rome-based composer and conductor, Rosati graduated with honours in composition from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome in the 2015–16 academic year. She received the UNCLA scholarship as the top composition graduate of her year and has continued to combine composition with teaching and performance. Her experience includes directing original works at the Accademia Filarmonica Romana and working as an arranger and pianist.

With “Proelium,” Rosati presents an instrumental work that encourages reflection and personal engagement.
