Reinard Bryan, stage name TheSubstance is a Jamaican songwriter, performer, and recording artiste, born on October 14th, 1988. His musical journey has been punctuated by notable achievements and a steadfast commitment to his craft.
In 2012, TheSubstance earned a nomination for Best New Artiste at the Clarendon Music Awards, a significant recognition that underscored his burgeoning talent and dedication to his art. Ultimately, he clinched the esteemed award, affirming his position as a promising artist within the industry.
On October 31st, 2015, TheSubstance unveiled his 10-track EP titled “Spiritual Insomnia,” a remarkable demonstration of his versatility as both an artist and a songwriter. This release not only showcased his musical prowess but also highlighted his ability to deftly navigate the dual roles of artist and lyricist, offering a glimpse into the depth of his creative expression.
In 2020, TheSubstance lost his daughter Reimarie. Reimarie, 11, of Portland Cottage in Clarendon, died last December, two months before taking the grade six ability test. Her family members are convinced that her death is dengue-related.
A tireless work in progress, TheSubstance is currently refining his artistry at Audio Traxx Studio in Old Harbour, under the guidance of Lamar Thompson. His collaborations have resulted in the creation of noteworthy tracks such as “Fools in Love (Pt.1 & 2)” featuring Saine, “Steaming,” “Soaring High” featuring TruVice, “King For You,” and his recent release “Black Skin.”
TheSubstance has garnered significant exposure on various esteemed platforms, including Reggae King Radio, Vibes Link F.M. New Jersey, Road Block Radio of VP Records, Newstalk 93fm (Lady D), Hot 102 FM (Mr. Williams), Irie magazine, 18 karat Reggae, and Reggaeville. These features have allowed his music to resonate with diverse audiences and have contributed to his growing influence within the reggae and music community.
