Lennikim Paints a Cinematic Love Story on “Gas Station Lover”

Lennikim has released his anthemic new single “Gas Station Lover,” a cinematic pop track that blends nostalgic Americana imagery with deeply personal storytelling rooted in long-distance love and self-discovery.

Framed like the opening scene of a film, the track draws heavily on Lennikim’s background as an actor, using vivid visual language and emotional pacing to create a song that feels as much like a soundtrack as it does a pop single. Inspired by a real long-distance relationship between Canada and the United States, “Gas Station Lover” reflects on years of travel, connection, and emotional growth shaped by distance and time.

Lennikim shares that the Americana influence in the song comes directly from his experiences crossing borders to maintain a relationship, as well as the cultural impact of 90s pop culture introduced to him during that period. That era, he explains, has since become a defining influence on his evolving sound.

The release also marks a continuation of his artistic reinvention following his independently released EP Adrenaline, which saw him step into a more liberated creative space, writing in English for the first time and fully embracing his identity. This shift has allowed him to explore themes of sexuality, freedom, and self-expression more openly in his work.

Originally rising to fame as a child actor and singer, Lennikim’s early career included a major label deal, television appearances, and international touring. However, he has since moved away from industry expectations that once attempted to shape him into a “French Justin Bieber,” instead embracing a more cinematic and emotionally expansive pop direction inspired by artists like Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey.

Speaking about his current era, Lennikim describes “Gas Station Lover” as the beginning of a new chapter—one that embraces pop grandeur, escapism, and the emotional world of the “kid in his bedroom discovering music as a lifeline.”

Beyond music, Lennikim continues to build momentum as an actor, recently appearing in the Canadian queer Netflix drama FEM, where he plays a character navigating identity and artistry.

With a growing global audience, millions of YouTube views, and over 100 million streams across DSPs, “Gas Station Lover” signals the start of a bold new creative phase for Lennikim, one that continues to merge music, cinema, and personal truth.
