Ego Ella May Delivers “Good Intentions”

Award-winning British-Nigerian singer-songwriter Ego Ella May has officially released her long-awaited sophomore album, Good Intentions, marking a powerful return that blends soul, jazz, and introspective storytelling.

Entirely self-produced alongside a carefully selected group of collaborators, including Alfa Mist, Beat Butcha, LVTHER, Melo Zed, TAVE, and Tom Excell, the album reflects Ego Ella May’s hands-on approach to crafting a deeply personal and sonically rich body of work.

Leading up to the release, singles such as What We Do, co-produced with Wu-Lu, the broken-beat inspired What You Waiting For, We’re Not Free, and Don’t Take My Lover Away offered an early glimpse into the project’s depth. Notably, “We’re Not Free” carries echoes of What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye, reinforcing the album’s socially conscious undertones.

“Good Intentions” explores themes of community, liberation, vulnerability, and the layered beauty of everyday human experience. The project is rooted in introspection and shaped by honest conversations within Ego’s inner circle, giving the album an intimate and reflective tone throughout.

Beyond music, the album also draws inspiration from literary voices such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Patti Smith, Chinua Achebe, Ayobami Adebayo, and Joan Didion. Their influence is felt in the album’s narrative depth and its thoughtful engagement with identity, culture, and emotion.

With “Good Intentions,” Ego Ella May delivers a project that is both musically refined and emotionally resonant, solidifying her place as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary soul and R&B.
