Bricknasty Bring Funky Energy to New Single ‘honey bee’

Irish collective Bricknasty continues their fast-rising run with “honey bee,” a textured new single that sees the group blend alternative sounds, hip-hop rhythms, and an effortlessly captivating vocal performance.

Produced by Cillian McCauley, the track explores the complicated space between affection and frustration, capturing the push and pull that can come with intimacy. Rather than settling into one clear emotion, “honey bee” moves through feelings of longing, attraction, and uncertainty, giving the song an unpredictable quality that fits Bricknasty’s wider approach to music.

The production allows the group to move comfortably between different influences without being boxed into a particular genre. Hip-hop provides part of the rhythmic foundation, while the alternative elements and expressive vocals give the track its distinct character.

Frontman Fatboy describes the group’s approach to the song in a typically direct fashion, saying, “We all need to be making more funky music that sounds deadly in the studio and deadly live.” Producer Cillian McCauley adds to the sentiment with the playful line, “Put that in your pipe and smoke on it.”

“Honey bee” follows a busy run for Bricknasty, coming after the release of “bobinov” earlier in the summer and their collaboration with F3miii and KhakiKid on “TAKE A TRIP.” The group also made their debut North American tour and appearance at SXSW earlier this year, further expanding their growing audience beyond Ireland.

Their momentum has continued on home soil and across major stages. Bricknasty recently performed at All Points East and also supported Loyle Carner in August, adding to a growing list of live appearances that has helped establish them as one of Ireland’s most unpredictable and energetic acts.

The group’s visual identity has become just as distinctive as their music. Their “bobinov” campaign pushed further into surreal territory with a music video inspired by warped PS2-era video game aesthetics and hallucinatory stop-motion animation, reflecting the unconventional world Bricknasty continue to build around their work.

That creative freedom can be traced back to BLACKS LAW, the group’s 2025 EP and an important turning point in their evolution. Across nine tracks, Bricknasty explored themes including faith, addiction, political disillusionment and human volatility while refusing to settle into a predictable sonic formula.

The project balanced chaos with moments of clarity, connecting Ireland’s complicated past with a sense of hope for what could come next. Its politically charged and spiritually searching approach earned recognition from publications including Dazed, Office Magazine, FLOOD Magazine, Rolling Stone UK, CRACK and The Observer.

Bricknasty’s growing reputation has also been reflected in their wider industry recognition. The group have been recipients of the Notion New Music Award and recently appeared as the cover stars of Dork Magazine.

Their live credentials continue to grow as well, with Bricknasty sharing stages with artists from across the musical spectrum, including Ezra Collective, André 3000, Aby Coulibaly and Loyle Carner. They also performed alongside Coldplay at a sold-out Croke Park show.

With “honey bee,” Bricknasty continue to embrace the restless creativity that has defined their recent run. The single feels intimate without losing the group’s unpredictability, bringing together contrasting emotions and sounds while leaving plenty of room for their personality to come through.

As the Dublin collective continues to expand its audience and push its genre-blurring identity forward, “honey bee” offers another glimpse into why Bricknasty have become one of Ireland’s most exciting acts to watch.
