The Emirates FA Cup called upon Olaolu Slawn once again to embrace the spirit of the Final, and the artist answered by bringing his signature style to Wembley across the pre-match ceremony, tunnel, and celebratory champagne bottles. One of the most exciting and innovative artists and designers of his generation, Olaolu Slawn and his playful aesthetic have arrived at the forefront of popular culture. Now, one year after designing an homage to the competition’s iconic trophy alongside The FA’s official silverware provider, Thomas Lyte, Slawn’s presence was felt across the Final itself.
Following on from his unique design last season, Slawn’s involvement was expanded further on Saturday by curating key areas at the home of English football for the Final between Crystal Palace and Manchester City. His signature expressionist, caricaturesque style featured in the pre-match ceremony and banner parade, across the player’s tunnel, as well as featuring on the winner’s and Player of the Match champagne bottles used during the celebrations.
At just 24 years of age, Slawn has demonstrated a titanic influence across multiple aspects of art and wider culture. From becoming the youngest artist to design the Brit Award in 2023, to his work with musical icons including SZA, Beyonce, and A$AP Rocky, there is no doubt that the artist has set standards for aesthetics and design since his arrival into the art space. Slawn’s involvement signals a new chapter for what is such a prestigious competition both domestically and internationally. The Emirates FA Cup has been a footballing touchstone for over 150 years, while Slawn’s designs are demonstrative of the cup’s continued development, global reach and impact in modern culture.
