Ellie Goulding Unveils Heartfelt New Single “4 Seasons”

British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding has released her brand-new single, “4 Seasons,” the latest preview of her highly anticipated sixth studio album, I Know Too Much, arriving September 4 via Polydor Records.

Following the sharp-edged emotion of “Black Prada Dress,” 4 Seasons reveals a softer, more intimate side of Goulding. Built around warm acoustic guitar, shimmering electronic textures, and her unmistakable vocals, the song captures the exhilarating vulnerability of falling in love, blending heartfelt storytelling with the atmospheric production that has become a signature of her sound.

The single was first introduced during Goulding’s appearance on Later… with Jools Holland in June, where audiences received an early glimpse of the track’s emotional depth before its official release.

“4 Seasons” was co-written and produced by Jack Rochon, the acclaimed songwriter and producer who also serves as executive producer of I Know Too Much. Known for his work with Beyoncé, Rochon first connected with Goulding after she reached out to him on TikTok, with the pair spending the past two years crafting what has become one of Goulding’s most personal albums to date.

Reflecting on the project, Goulding explains: “The album came from the idea that maybe we can know too much. There is a certain kind of freedom in the ease of not knowing. This album is a collection of songs that represent a crossroads in my life where I realized what the freedom of not knowing has gifted me in the past, yet a time when I am at the precipice of understanding the true power in knowing. Through the chaos of this great change, I went to my comfort zone and found my refuge in the studio. Writing a song has always been my best form of therapy.”

That emotional honesty is woven throughout 4 Seasons, where organic instrumentation meets sparkling electronic production, recalling the sound that first introduced Goulding to global audiences while showcasing the artistic evolution that has defined her career.

Over the past 17 years, Ellie Goulding has established herself as one of Britain’s most successful and influential pop artists. With more than 55 billion global streams and over 44 million albums sold, she ranks among the world’s most-streamed British female artists alongside Adele. She also holds the record for the most No. 1 albums by a British female artist and the highest number of UK Singles Chart entries by any British female solo artist.

Goulding’s influence continues to resonate with new generations of listeners. Last month, she performed during the half-time show of England’s FIFA Women’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway, while also lending her vocals to Muse’s recent single “Hush,” one of the standout tracks from the band’s latest album, The Wow! Signal.

Her enduring popularity has also been fuelled by social media, with her breakthrough 2009 hit “Starry Eyed” recently returning to the UK Official Charts after becoming a viral sensation on TikTok earlier this year.

As anticipation builds for I Know Too Much, “4 Seasons” offers an emotionally rich glimpse into Ellie Goulding’s next creative chapter, reaffirming her ability to balance vulnerability, innovation, and timeless pop songwriting.
