Techno producer and DJ Rob Ótico is set to return with his latest single, “Coffee Bowl,” arriving on October 9, 2026.
The track was born from an unlikely combination of sounds during a retreat in Mallorca. After taking part in a sound healing session featuring Himalayan singing bowls, Rob Ótico later found himself having coffee with fellow retreat-goers when the sound of a Nespresso machine caught his attention.
Instead of ignoring the everyday noise, the producer heard the potential for a track. The sound of the coffee machine, combined with the resonant tones of the singing bowls from earlier in the day, became the foundation for “Coffee Bowl.” In fact, the track’s opening synth line was created from the sound of the Nespresso machine itself, blended with the healing bowls to form the record’s distinctive sonic character.
The result is a techno track designed to capture the feeling of a moment of calm before the energy rises. Rob Ótico conceived “Coffee Bowl” as an opener for a DJ set, imagining a sequence that gives listeners a moment to slow down before the intensity eventually builds toward the drop. The concept is simple: a coffee, a brief meditation, and then the music takes over.
The track also arrives as another chapter in Rob Ótico’s long relationship with DJing. Active behind the decks since the late 1990s, he had been building a reputation across Bristol and London before a devastating traffic accident in 2004 resulted in the loss of his right leg above the knee.
The accident forced him away from the scene for almost two decades, but his connection to DJing remained. In 2019, Rob Ótico returned to the scene, beginning a new chapter that involved rebuilding himself both physically and musically. Since returning, he has continued developing his presence as a DJ and has shared stages with respected names including John 00 Fleming, Heavy Hertz, Neurodriver, Render and Dickster.
His musical influences include John 00 Fleming and Daniel Lesden, reflecting the deeper electronic and psychedelic sounds that continue to inform his approach.
With “Coffee Bowl,” Rob Ótico turns an ordinary moment into an unusual piece of electronic music, using sounds associated with coffee and meditation as the starting point for a track built to move from stillness into intensity.
