Italian multidisciplinary artist Michele Ducci dives deeper into his surreal sonic universe with the release of “Rain On Me,” a synth-heavy new single lifted from his forthcoming album and animated film Snail in the Clouds. Known previously as one half of acclaimed duo M+A, Ducci embraces a more cinematic and experimental direction here, crafting a track that feels both emotionally weathered and strangely euphoric.
Inspired by the atmospheric pulse of Underworld’s iconic “Born Slippy,” “Rain On Me” blends towering synth textures, restless basslines, and Ducci’s fragile, world-weary vocals into a hypnotic electronic soundscape. Recorded and produced alongside Simon Milner (Is Tropical, Ysing) at London’s 4am Studios, the single captures a late-night intensity where melancholy and movement collide.
“I wrote it thinking about what the rain would say if it could speak,” Ducci explains. “Before recording, I had been listening to ‘Born Slippy’ and loved the atmosphere created by the synths. Then Simon suggested that exact reference in the studio, which felt almost telepathic.”
The single arrives as the third and final preview of Snail in the Clouds, an ambitious multimedia project combining music, animation, and fantasy storytelling. Set on a mythical planet populated by hybrids of scorpions, snails, and humans, the narrative follows musician Diodoros as he becomes entangled in a battle to protect the “ark of melodies,” an ancient vessel sustaining the planet through music and joy.
Accompanying the release is a visually striking animated video created by Ducci and Letizia Mandoleisi. The clip follows Diodoros as he awakens the planet’s tear ducts through song before floating skyward beneath an umbrella, further immersing viewers in the project’s dreamlike mythology.
With its shimmering electronics, imaginative storytelling, and emotionally rich atmosphere, “Rain On Me” offers another compelling glimpse into Snail in the Clouds ahead of the album and film’s release on June 5 via Monotreme Records.
