Hua Li 化力, known for working with the fruitful tension between opposing forces, has released a new pop song titled “Cherrier.” Hua Li’s project explores themes of being mixed-race, bisexual, and politically outspoken while maintaining a soft vulnerability.
The song “Cherrier” is a reflection on coming of age in the late 2000s in the Plateau-Mont Royal neighborhood of Montreal. Anchored by a driving synth bass line, the track transports listeners between 2009 and 2019 as Hua Li attempts to confront and overturn traumatic memories associated with people and places she tried to avoid but kept being drawn back to as a performer and DJ.
Hua Li shares that since writing this song, she has been able to reclaim these parts of the city from a place of healing and celebration. The song serves as a personal journey of growth and transformation.
