Canadian indie pop band Wotts has recently unveiled their latest single, “Laundry.” Produced by Jayem, the band’s vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, “Laundry” showcases Wotts embracing a sound that has been close to their hearts since their inception. Drawing inspiration from bands like The Smiths and Fontaines D.C., Wotts infuses their music with elements of alternative pop, indie rock, and lo-fi, creating an infectiously catchy blend.
With “Laundry,” Wotts ventures into new territory while still incorporating familiar psych-pop touches. Bassist and guitarist Ricky 100 explains, “There’s so much music from over there that’s impacted us. It was only a matter of time before that influence made its way into our tracks.”
While Wotts explores new sonic territories, they maintain a recognizable sound and vibe. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jayem explains, “We’ve been doing this for two years, and I think we’re finally starting to settle into a lane. We’ll always be down to throw in something fresh, but we like the idea of having a recognizable sound or vibe.”
“Laundry” serves as the lead single for Wotts’ upcoming EP, offering fans a taste of what to expect from the entire project. According to Ricky, listeners can anticipate a balance of freshness and familiarity. He shares, “On our last EP, ‘PETALS,’ we focused more on telling a cohesive story rather than making sure the sound was consistent. Here, we wanted to embrace the best of what we’ve put out to date while also ensuring everything ties together sonically.”
The release of “Laundry” marks the beginning of an exciting summer for Wotts. Alongside the EP release, the band plans to venture into the world of music videos and embark on recording their first full-length record. With their infectious sound and unwavering enthusiasm, Wotts is poised to captivate audiences and continue their musical journey.
