Brooklyn alternative legends They Might Be Giants have released a brand-new video for their cover of “Overnight Sensation (Hit Record),” originally by The Raspberries. The track is currently available exclusively through the band’s official webstore, offering fans an early glimpse into their forthcoming project.
The song is taken from the band’s highly anticipated new album, “The World Is to Dig,” set for release on April 14 across all major formats via TMBGshop.com and streaming platforms. An exclusive 180-gram colored vinyl edition will follow on April 17, available at independent retail stores.
Reflecting on the track, band member John Linnell shared insight into the song’s lasting impact, noting how The Raspberries captured a style of pop that had already faded from mainstream relevance in the early 1970s yet still resonated powerfully. He described hearing the track on AM radio during his youth as a defining moment, adding that revisiting its themes decades later brings a sense of irony and renewed appreciation.
“The World Is to Dig” marks They Might Be Giants’ first full-length album since 2021’s Grammy-nominated “BOOK.” The upcoming 18-track collection promises a mix of inventive songwriting and experimental arrangements, continuing the band’s legacy of pushing creative boundaries within alternative music.
In support of the release, the band will embark on THE BIGGER SHOW TOUR, launching on April 17. The tour will see them perform multi-night residencies across major cities including Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Woodstock.
Each show will offer a unique experience, with no opening acts. Instead, the band will perform in an “An Evening with” format, featuring a different album from their catalog in the first set, followed by fan favorites and deep cuts in the second. Backed by an expanded eight-piece lineup that includes a three-piece horn section, the performances are designed to be dynamic, unpredictable, and immersive.
Following two years of sold-out touring, anticipation for both the album and tour continues to build. With “The World Is to Dig,” They Might Be Giants reaffirm their reputation as one of alternative music’s most enduring and inventive acts, delivering a project that blends nostalgia with forward-thinking creativity.
