Following a busy start to the year, gaining vast critical support for the group’s previously released singles, ‘The Sea At Midnight’ are on the rise once again as they unveil their new EP, ‘Burning’.
Blending introspective lyrics with environmental warnings, through the lens of post-punk, The Sea At Midnight’s new EP stands its ground as a dynamic offering. Featuring previously released singles ‘Midnight Sun’ and ‘Chopping Them Down’, the five-track project acts as a defiant call for climate action to be taken. Lyrically the EP highlights humanity’s self-inflicted role in climate destruction, acting as an eye-opener and a sonic plea in the face of global catastrophe.
Discussing the crisis, he explains, “Living in Los Angeles, I’ve had a front-row seat to what the future could hold—severe and prolonged droughts, record-breaking heat, and catastrophic wildfires. And it’s not just here. It seems like every day brings another climate-related disaster: monstrous hurricanes, raging wildfires, devastating floods, tornadoes with hurricane-force winds—the list goes on.
Denial is a powerful drug, but I’m still stunned by the sheer mental gymnastics it must take to ignore the crisis we’ve created. Even with overwhelming evidence, we still lack the will—or the concern—to slam the brakes before we drive straight off the cliff. And to make it worse, we keep doubling down on destruction. Deforestation, for example, isn’t just reckless; it’s suicidal. Either that, or it’s a giant middle finger to Mother Nature – not that she cares.”
The Sea At Midnight is the project of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Vince Grant. Penning lyrics that confront the urgent realities of climate change, Grant’s work serves as a reflection and a warning. Taking influence from the early post-punk pioneers, the project debuted in 2020 with their self-titled debut album. Blending together meaningful alt-rock songs, with a rooted post-punk spirit, the project looks to turn heads and shape minds as it moves across the industry. Growing from strength to strength with each release, the band gears up to release their forthcoming five-track EP in 2025.
With ‘Burning’, The Sea At Midnight delivers a powerful message wrapped in introspective lyrics and post-punk energy. This EP serves as a defiant call to action, urging listeners to confront the urgent realities of climate change and humanity’s role in its destruction. ‘Burning’ stands as an eye-opening reminder of the consequences of inaction, making it a necessary listen for anyone invested in the future of our planet.”
