What happens when a band known for thrashing guitars decides to loosen the grip, turn up the groove, and let the feelings do the talking? The Fever Dreams find out on their latest single, Running.
Coming after Hairclip Things and Fuel, the new track takes a noticeably different route. The guitars are still sharp, the vocals still climb with plenty of character, and the band’s instinct for a clever riff has not disappeared. This time, though, everything feels a little more relaxed. Think lighters in the air rather than fists in the moshpit.
That change of pace works surprisingly well. Running swaps some of the heavier attack for flirtatious grooves, charming vocals, and drums that keep the track moving without trying to flatten the speakers. Even the solos have a different job here. Instead of simply going for maximum volume and intensity, they are used to strengthen the emotional side of the song.
And there is plenty of emotion underneath the groove. Running centres on that awkward but important moment when you realise you cannot keep avoiding your feelings for someone. Eventually, the only option is to stop dodging the issue and confront what you actually feel. It gives the song a relatable heart without taking away from its easygoing energy.
The real fun is hearing The Fever Dreams stretch beyond the sound listeners may already associate with them. The heavier elements are still present in the band’s DNA, but Running shows they are not afraid to explore another lane. It feels less like a complete reinvention and more like another piece of the bigger picture.
That sense of forward movement also fits where the five-piece find themselves right now. Following their previous releases, they have built momentum through sell-out local shows, performances in London at Dublin Castle and Half Moon, Putney, and continued radio support in both the UK and US through Amazing Radio. Add in growing press attention, and it is clear the band are continuing to push themselves beyond familiar territory.
Running is therefore more than just a softer moment from The Fever Dreams. It is another sign of a band willing to experiment, develop and keep moving. They have traded some of the chaos for groove, but the ambition remains firmly intact.
