London-based artist SHY PUMA delivers a soulful and introspective debut with her EP “Don’t Rush Me,” a powerful exploration of self-discovery, healing, and growth. Inspired by her 11-year journey in London, the project delves into themes of heartbreak, fear, depression, self-acceptance, and resilience, offering a raw and honest reflection of her experiences.
The title, “Don’t Rush Me,” captures a deeply personal mantra for SHY PUMA, a reminder to honor one’s own timeline amidst the pressures of life. “I’ve waited a long time to release music,” she shares. “It took me years to understand that the timing has to feel right for me, not for anyone else.”
Produced in collaboration with Alessandro La Barbera—known for his work with Sans Soucis and Davide Shorty—the EP blends alternative R&B with psychedelic and electronic influences, creating a dreamy yet grounded sonic landscape. The two standout singles, “Moments” and “I Didn’t Know,” highlight SHY PUMA’s ability to merge soulful melodies with electronic textures, resulting in a sound that feels both nostalgic and innovative.
Born in Milan to an Egyptian family, SHY PUMA infuses her diverse cultural background into her music, drawing from the neo-soul influences of Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, as well as contemporary artists like Nick Hakim and Lianne La Havas. This rich blend of inspirations translates into a timeless yet fresh soundscape, where vulnerability meets artistry.
“Don’t Rush Me” is more than just a collection of songs; it’s an invitation to embrace life’s complexities and celebrate the growth that comes with overcoming challenges. SHY PUMA’s heartfelt storytelling and genre-blurring sound make this debut EP a standout, promising to captivate listeners and establish her as a rising voice in the alternative R&B scene.
