Sarah Segal-Lazar Reimagines “Anything But Age”

Marking the 10th anniversary of her debut album Two If by Sea, Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah Segal-Lazar breathes new life into a fan-favorite with the release of “Anything But Age.” Originally an acoustic gem, the track now emerges with a full-band arrangement, reflecting Sarah’s artistic evolution while preserving the emotional core that resonated a decade ago.

Written ten years prior, “Anything But Age” takes on fresh depth as Sarah revisits themes of time, memory, and personal growth. Recorded live-off-the-floor during the year’s first snowfall, the song’s new arrangement captures a raw and intimate energy, mirroring the introspection that winter often brings.

Adding to the song’s poignancy, the accompanying music video is a deeply personal tribute to family history. Crafted from 8mm footage shot by Sarah’s grandfather between 1949 and 1958, the visuals weave a nostalgic narrative of love, time, and transformation. The vintage clips enhance the song’s themes, bridging past and present in a heartfelt homage.

Reflecting on the experience, Sarah shares, “Anything But Age” captures the essence of who I was and who I’ve become. The irony of releasing this song 10 years later isn’t lost on me. It’s humbling to realize I’m now older than the man I originally wrote the song about. Revisiting it with my band was both surreal and beautiful—like looking at an old photo and seeing new details for the first time. This video is also special to me. Piecing it together was like uncovering a family treasure—it added a whole new dimension to the song’s meaning.”

With ‘Anything But Age’, Sarah Segal-Lazar offers a touching reflection on the passage of time, proving that music, like memory, only grows richer with age.
