Toronto-based alternative artist and musician Sam Louis is confronting the feeling of being trapped inside your own thoughts with his new single “cave in,” a restless alternative-pop track that turns emotional overwhelm into something dark, atmospheric, and ultimately hopeful.
Released via Shamus Records, the new song combines raw vocals, textured guitars and forward-driving production to recreate the sensation of losing control while desperately searching for a way back to solid ground.
“cave in” explores the uncomfortable space between feeling overwhelmed and refusing to completely give up. Louis builds the track around atmospheric guitars and increasingly urgent production, creating a sound that feels both expansive and claustrophobic.
The tension is intentional. As the instrumentation continues to move forward, Louis’ vocals carry the emotional weight of someone trying to slow down when everything around them seems to be accelerating.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Louis says: “I wrote ‘cave in’ around the overwhelming feeling of losing control but not hope… when everything is moving too fast around you and you keep failing to slow yourself down. ‘cave in’ is about searching for that light at the end of the collapsing tunnel.”
That balance between darkness and hope sits at the heart of the record. Rather than simply dwelling on the feeling of being overwhelmed, “cave in” turns the experience into a cathartic release, capturing the struggle of trying to find clarity when everything feels like it is closing in.
Louis has also built a strong reputation through his live performances and songwriting. He is an Indigenous Music Award winner and an International Songwriting Competition semifinalist, while his career highlights include reaching the Top 50 on Canada’s Got Talent, performing multiple sold-out Canadian Music Week showcases and securing international sync placements.
Musically, Louis has developed a style that brings together emotionally direct songwriting, atmospheric production and textured guitar work, placing his music somewhere between alternative rock and contemporary alt-pop.
With “cave in,” that approach becomes particularly personal, as Louis uses the track to explore the mental pressure of feeling overwhelmed while holding onto the possibility that things can still change.
The single also sets the stage for a bigger chapter ahead. Louis is preparing to release his new full-length album, low impact, followed by his first touring circuit in 2027.
