Ross Learmonth Explores the Push and Pull of Love in Anthemic New Single ‘Opposites’

Renowned South African singer-songwriter Ross Learmonth returns with “Opposites,” a heartfelt yet buoyant single that captures the emotional paradoxes of love with striking lyrical honesty and stadium-ready production. Known for his compelling voice and anthemic soundscapes, Learmonth leans into the vulnerability that’s become a hallmark of his solo work, creating music that connects across cultures and airwaves alike.

Blending elements of modern pop-rock with rich storytelling, “Opposites” is equal parts introspective and infectious—bringing to mind the sonic charisma of Hozier or Harry Styles, while remaining uniquely Learmonth. “The song was loosely inspired by my parents’ relationship and my own experiences,” he shares. “Sometimes, opposites really do attract—and bring out all sorts of unexpected things in one another.”

Produced alongside the same UK-based team behind his recent hits “Honey” and “Because of You,” the track showcases the ongoing evolution of Learmonth’s solo artistry since his Prime Circle days. Working with Rusti Rossouw and Tristan Carmichael, Learmonth delivers a polished, emotionally charged single that’s already making waves across South African radio and streaming platforms.

There’s a spontaneity in how the song came together, too. “I often talk about songs floating around the room,” he reflects. “This was one of those—it felt like it wanted to be written.” Recorded with engineer Mark Beiling, the track pulses with sincerity, wrapped in catchy hooks and grounded instrumentation.

Following high-profile appearances, including a recent opening performance for The Goo Goo Dolls and standout sets at Kirstenbosch Gardens and RMB Starlight Classics, Learmonth continues to assert his presence on the live stage. His April and May tour dates see him traveling across South Africa before heading to Cyprus in July—bringing “Opposites” to eager audiences far and wide.

With a second studio album in the works and another single expected in May, Ross Learmonth is proving he’s only just getting started in this new chapter. “It’s been daunting building a solo name,” he admits, “but seeing it take shape is incredibly rewarding.”
