panfriedxiao Debuts Transcendent Single “Liquid Air”

NYC-based producer and artist panfriedxiao is making her debut with “Liquid Air”, a single that transforms sound into a physical and emotional experience. Through meticulously designed waves of melody and space, the track carries listeners into a world where music, emotion, and environment converge.

Born in China and trained in classical piano, panfriedxiao relocated to New York City in 2017, leaving behind a thriving music life in Beijing. Years of cultural displacement and career focus in journalism paused her musical journey. Following a period of burnout and her departure from The New York Times, she returned to music with renewed focus, creating a space where she could rediscover her voice.

“Liquid Air” is built on shifting melodic pads that ebb and flow like liquid, moving between clarity and haze. Wind-chime tones dance across the stereo field, strings rise to the forefront, vocal hums weave through, and distant flute calls echo from above, creating an ever-evolving sonic environment. Panfriedxiao treats the stereo field as architecture, designing a track that dissolves the boundaries between liquid, air, and solid, transporting listeners to another plane.

For the single’s visual component, panfriedxiao collaborated with fellow New York–based Chinese artist Xinyue Chen, who translated the music’s fluidity into a watercolor painting. Using layered textures and a unified, cool-toned palette, Chen’s artwork mirrors the song’s sense of emergence and movement, offering a multi-sensory journey where sound and visual art intertwine.

“Liquid Air” is more than a song—it is an invitation into a crafted universe, where every note, every sound wave, resonates with the listener’s body, mind, and imagination.
