Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Naomi Campbell unveils her latest single, “Don’t You Mind,” a soulful ballad that marks a significant evolution in her musical journey. Known for her roots in Americana and Folk, Campbell draws inspiration from classic female Soul, Country, and R&B artists, blending these influences into a distinctive sound.
The track was conceived during her involvement with Tin Can Voodoo, a project exploring classic Blues, Rock, R&B, and Soul. Performing alongside powerhouse vocalists like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Bobbie Gentry, Campbell was inspired to infuse more roots and Soul into her songwriting. She reflects, “I wrote ‘Don’t You Mind’ in September last year reflecting on being able to share your troubles with your other half and letting them carry some of the weight.”
Recorded at the iconic Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and later at Liverpool’s Motor Museum Recording Studio, the single features a full band arrangement that complements Campbell’s earthy vocals. The production captures the essence of 60s and 70s vocalists, blending softer Americana influences with a grittier edge.
“Don’t You Mind” is a poignant exploration of vulnerability and trust within relationships, inviting listeners to share their burdens with loved ones. The song’s rich instrumentation and heartfelt lyrics showcase Campbell’s growth as an artist, seamlessly merging her traditional roots with contemporary soul influences.
