Birmingham-based Nigerian singer, songwriter and recording artist Lynox steps into a new chapter with his deeply personal debut solo EP, Love & Herbs, a four-track project that brings together love, nature, healing, freedom and the search for peace.
Drawing from reggae, afro-dancehall, soul and afrofusion, the EP reflects Lynox’s desire to create music that feels rather than simply sounds polished. Live-inspired instrumentation, melodic basslines, expressive saxophone and spacious arrangements give the project room to breathe, allowing the emotion in each song to sit naturally within the music.
Written entirely by Lynox and produced by Blacknotes and Ceeceebeatz, whose credits include work with Fireboy DML and Mayorkun, Love & Herbs is built around a simple idea: sometimes the most meaningful music comes from allowing the feeling to lead. Instead of overcrowding the songs, Lynox and his collaborators leave space for the melodies, lyrics and instrumentation to communicate on their own terms.
The title Love & Herbs brings together the two ideas that run through the project. Love represents compassion, romance, vulnerability and human connection, while herbs represent nature, healing and freedom, as well as their longstanding cultural association with reggae. Together, the two words become a wider reflection on the different ways people find balance and restoration.
The EP opens with “Mr. Farmer,” a warm reggae tribute to the natural world and the people responsible for cultivating it. Lynox uses the track to celebrate farmers while encouraging greater appreciation for the plants and resources that sustain communities.
On “Kiss From Heaven,” the focus shifts towards romance. The song captures the calm and security that comes with finding someone with whom vulnerability feels safe, exploring companionship, trust and the feeling of discovering a relationship that feels meant to be.
“Control Me” takes that emotion further, exploring the more consuming side of falling deeply in love. Soulful chords, gentle reggae rhythms and expressive melodies create the backdrop as Lynox reflects on the excitement and surrender that can come when another person’s presence begins to reshape your world.
The EP closes with “Marijuana,” a song that taps into one of reggae culture’s most enduring conversations. Lynox explores cannabis as a symbol connected to meditation, freedom and self-expression while also touching on wider questions around legalisation and personal liberty. Its classic reggae influence meets afrofusion energy, giving the project a vibrant final chapter.
Together, the four tracks create a cohesive world where love and nature become different paths towards the same destination: peace. Love & Herbs does not attempt to chase a particular musical moment. Instead, Lynox is interested in creating something that can live beyond it, drawing from the traditions that have influenced him while allowing his own experiences and contemporary African perspective to shape the sound.
For Lynox, the EP also represents an important step in his evolution as a solo artist. Born in the Ajegunle suburbs of Lagos State, he discovered music through church before developing his craft through poetry, rap and songwriting. His early career included an appearance on DJ Jimmy Jatt’s Jimmy’s Jump Off, collaborations with producer Masterkraft and songwriting contributions for artists including CDQ, SHiiKANE, DJ Derek and Flavour.
He later formed the afrobeats duo Playaz with Gabana, serving as lead vocalist and principal songwriter. The duo’s Zlatan-assisted record “Mad Oh” helped expand his profile, followed by the Playsound EP and collaborations with KiDi and 1da Banton. His subsequent solo work included “Big Body Benz” featuring Xbusta and “Stay With Me,” which gained significant attention on social media.
Now, Love & Herbs gives Lynox the space to present a more complete picture of the artist he has become. Reggae and dancehall remain central to the project’s DNA, but so do the African sounds, soulful melodies and personal storytelling that have defined his journey.
From the appreciation of nature on “Mr. Farmer” to the romance of “Kiss From Heaven,” the surrender of “Control Me” and the freedom explored on “Marijuana,” each song offers a different perspective while contributing to the same larger message.
With Love & Herbs, Lynox isn’t asking listeners to rush through the music. He’s inviting them to slow down, reconnect with what matters, and find a little peace in the spaces between the noise.
