Irish alternative rapper and singer KhakiKid continues his rapid rise with the release of his latest single, “Soul,” a deeply introspective track lifted from his forthcoming five-track EP Girl Bites Dog, set for release on April 17.
Produced by Louis Stanley Isaacs and featuring vocals from Bricknasty, “Soul” merges soulful instrumentation with an alt-rap edge. Built on melancholic piano melodies and punchy kick drums, the track balances emotional weight with an unexpectedly upbeat energy. At its core, the song explores the quiet aftermath of conflict, capturing the internal dialogue that lingers long after words are left unsaid.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the single, KhakiKid explains, “It’s the conversation you have with yourself a week after the argument, in retrospect.” The release showcases a more vulnerable side of the artist, pairing his laid-back, almost spoken-word delivery with a reflective and emotionally charged chorus.
Known for his ability to blur the lines between sincerity and satire, KhakiKid continues to push creative boundaries. His music often dives into themes of youth rebellion, relationships, and the contradictions of modern adulthood, delivered with unfiltered honesty and sharp humor that resonates with a growing audience.
The single follows the success of “Favela” and “Moved On,” both of which have been building momentum ahead of the EP. “Favela” in particular garnered strong support from tastemakers and airplay on BBC Radio 1, further cementing his status as one to watch.
Born Abdu and raised in Dublin, KhakiKid began writing music at just 12 years old, drawing early inspiration from icons like Eminem and 50 Cent. Over time, he has developed a distinctive sound shaped by influences including Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller, and Irish contemporaries such as Kojaque.
Beyond music, KhakiKid is known for his hands-on creative approach, directing and editing his own visuals while exploring themes of identity, heritage, and belonging. His personal experiences growing up in Dublin, along with his openness about living with ADHD and reconnecting with his Arab-Irish roots, add depth and authenticity to his artistry.
His rise has been nothing short of meteoric, with over 25 million streams, a rapidly growing fanbase, and recognition from major platforms and publications. He has earned co-signs from artists like Lola Young and Anderson .Paak, alongside accolades from outlets including NME and Dazed. He also received nominations for Breakthrough Artist and Song of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for his track “Date Nite.”
With standout live performances already under his belt, including a sold-out headline show at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre and major festival appearances, KhakiKid is steadily expanding his reach. He is also set to perform in London on St. Patrick’s Day as part of a special event at the Guinness Storehouse.
As anticipation builds for Girl Bites Dog, “Soul” stands as a compelling preview of what’s to come, highlighting KhakiKid’s evolving artistry and his ability to turn personal reflection into powerful, relatable music.
