Los Angeles-based artist George Bell is set to release his fourth single of the year on October 4th, the infectious and laid-back track, “Blame it on the 90’s.” With a cool retro vibe, this song celebrates the iconic decade that shaped music, fashion, and culture. The single also features legendary West Coast rapper Fatlip from The Pharcyde, marking their second collaboration this year.
Discussing how the partnership came to life, Bell shares: “Fatlip and I share the same producer. One day in the studio, we started reminiscing about how great the 90’s were and how they’ve influenced today’s music and fashion. From pajama bottoms to vintage grunge and rap shirts, it’s everywhere. So, we decided to write a song about it.”
Blending nostalgia with a fresh perspective, “Blame it on the 90’s” pays homage to the era’s profound impact on rap and rock music, offering younger generations a glimpse into what made the decade special. Bell explains: “Just because something has a throwback vibe doesn’t mean it’s old or dated. It’s a fresh take on a timeless influence. I hope this song inspires people to appreciate different generations and how we all feed off and influence each other.”
Bell has also gained attention for his innovative use of AI-generated music videos, which bring his songs to life in visually captivating ways. On the decision to embrace AI, he says: “Although I’ve never used AI to write lyrics—something I’m not a fan of—I see its potential for creating stunning videos that match the essence of my songs. It’s an affordable and creative solution that looks pretty amazing.”
“Blame it on the 90’s” is more than just a nostalgic anthem—it’s a celebration of the cross-generational connections that shape art, culture, and creativity. Bell hopes listeners walk away with a newfound appreciation for the influence of the past and a willingness to embrace inspiration from unexpected places.
