Frank Renfordt, the mastermind behind The Cumberland River Project, returns with his latest single, ‘Highway Blue’. Written and produced by Renfordt, this track showcases his seasoned talent and passion for country and Americana music, drawing heavily on the influence of The Eagles. The song’s lush, summer vibe and melancholic undertones tell a story of letting go and starting anew—a theme that resonates deeply with listeners.
Renfordt played the bass guitar and laid down all the rhythm parts for Highway Blue, but it’s the collaboration with a global roster of session musicians that truly brings the song to life. From Argentina, Ender Mogollon adds the rich texture of acoustic guitars and banjo, while JL Folks from the US provides the electric guitar’s sharp, evocative notes. The piano, played by Neemias Teixeira from Brasilia, adds an additional layer of depth and warmth to the composition.
The vocals are delivered by Nashville-based artist and professional session singer Easton Driver. After auditioning two other singers, Renfordt found that Driver captured the exact emotional tone the song needed, bringing an authentic and heartfelt delivery that perfectly complements the track’s narrative.
Renfordt’s musical journey is as inspiring as his music. Starting to write songs at just ten years old, his early love for music was sidelined as he focused on his career and family. However, in his mid-fifties, inspired by trips to the USA and connections with Nashville’s music scene, Renfordt rekindled his passion for music, specifically country and Americana. This resurgence led to the release of two albums, an EP, and numerous singles under The Cumberland River Project. His work has garnered acclaim, including reaching the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest and winning “Best Country Album” at the German Rock & Pop Awards for his album A Smell Of Gravy.
