Fiora Anicca Explores Memory, Identity and Belonging on ‘Already Gone’

What if a dream felt so real that you started questioning whether it was actually a memory? That’s the fascinating idea behind “Already Gone”, the latest single from Polish-British singer-songwriter and producer Fiora Anicca. Inspired by a vivid inner experience, the track takes listeners into a world of loneliness, unexpected companionship and questions about identity and consciousness.

The experience behind the song centres on a young girl living in a village where she feels rejected and misunderstood. Seen as strange by the people around her, perhaps even considered a witch, she finds comfort in an unlikely companion: an ancient tree. She visits it each night, understands its language and listens as it shares stories about her family, the village and generations that came before her. More importantly, the tree gives her the acceptance and connection missing from her everyday life.

Fiora has wondered whether the experience could have been a memory from another lifetime, although she doesn’t claim to know for certain. What matters is how deeply she felt the emotions within it. That uncertainty becomes part of the song’s appeal. Rather than trying to explain the mystery, “Already Gone” invites listeners to sit with it and consider the strange ways memory, imagination and belonging can intersect.

The emotional heart of the story is particularly relatable. Most people know what it feels like to be misunderstood or to struggle to find somewhere they truly belong. The girl’s relationship with the tree offers an unusual but beautiful reminder that meaningful connections can sometimes appear in places others might overlook.

Written and produced by Fiora alongside Matthew Parisi, the single reflects her interest in atmospheric songwriting and expressive vocal performances. Her musical world draws inspiration from artists such as Björk, Kate Bush, Beth Gibbons, Nessi Gomes and Aurora, influences that sit comfortably alongside her exploration of transformation, identity and the inner world.

The accompanying music video adds another layer to the experience. Filmed by Steven Pickett, with colour grading by Krzysztof Sosnowski, it places Fiora in a striking limestone landscape beside an ancient tree, surrounded by wide-open skies. The setting creates a natural visual connection to the song’s central story, bringing its themes of solitude, mystery and companionship into focus.

Fiora’s own journey also gives context to the emotional depth of her work. Born in Poland and now based near Leeds, she has drawn on personal experiences of adversity, recovery and self-discovery throughout her artistic development. Classically trained in opera, she rebuilt her voice after developing vocal nodules and went on to complete a three-year Singer/Teacher Diploma at the Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen. She is also an authorised Complete Vocal Technique teacher, a certified MAP practitioner and the creator of The Unbound Voice Method.

Beyond music, Fiora is currently pursuing a Master’s in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology and hosts the Fiora’s World podcast. These interests connect naturally with the questions explored in “Already Gone”, making the single feel like another expression of her wider curiosity about human experience and what lies beneath the surface.

With support from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and international stations already forming part of her musical journey, Fiora continues to develop a distinctive creative identity. “Already Gone” is an intriguing addition to that journey, offering an emotionally engaging story without insisting that every mystery needs an answer.

Sometimes, the most interesting part of a song is the question it leaves behind. With “Already Gone”, Fiora Anicca gives listeners plenty to think about, while creating a thoughtful musical space for anyone who has ever felt out of place and found comfort in an unexpected connection.
