London-based artist Finn Doherty has unveiled his debut EP, “if you’re bored of this city,” a compelling exploration of desire, self-destruction, and the quest for identity within the complexities of urban life and personal relationships. The EP, mixed and mastered by Lavar Bullard, comprises seven tracks that encapsulate Finn’s transitional period, delving into themes of romance, introspection, and longing.
The project not only offers a captivating auditory experience but also takes a visual route, with six of the EP tracks accompanied by music videos that further translate Finn’s vision into a tangible format. Through “if you’re bored of this city,” Finn aims to authentically represent and give voice to his bisexuality, offering a whirlwind of emotions and stories of queerness.
“‘if you’re bored of this city’ is a project about desire, self-destruction, and the search for identity,” explains Finn. Inspired by a complex relationship intertwined with an internal exploration of his sexual identity, the EP reflects the experience of a city transitioning from a place of dreams to a realm of nightmares, becoming a backdrop for reckless behavior and a longing for something more.
The EP’s focus track, ‘Your Love Won’t Take Me Home,’ showcases Finn’s vulnerable side, capturing the moment of realization that things won’t work out with crystalline precision. This intimate acoustic track serves as an anchor point in the EP, portraying the acceptance of unrequited love, a universal experience for many in the queer community.
In addition to the poignant ‘Your Love Won’t Take Me Home,’ Finn explores a diverse range of themes and musical styles in tracks such as ‘Call It Off,’ ‘Figure It Out,’ ‘KMU,’ and ‘Drop My Guard,’ blending pop, indie, and electronic elements to delve into themes of lust, heartache, solitude, and sexuality.
