New York-born, Latin-rooted, and endlessly innovative—Oscar Eriyal is an artist who refuses to be boxed in. With his latest single “Deseo”, he fuses the heat of reggaeton with the smooth allure of R&B, crafting a bilingual anthem that reflects both his Bolivian and Ecuadorian heritage and the raw, genre-bending spirit of NYC. Fearless in experimentation yet deeply rooted in emotion, Oscar positions himself as more than just a musician—he’s a storyteller and boundary-breaker. In this exclusive interview, he opens up about his inspirations, his Latin roots, and the seductive yet soulful world of “Deseo.”
RM: First of all, Who is Oscar Eriyal?
Oscar Eriyal: Oscar Eriyal is an innovator. Someone unafraid to take risks, break rules, and carve his lane. I’m an artist, producer, and storyteller at heart, but more than anything, I’m a student of life. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I’m fearless when it comes to exploring new sounds, emotions, and ways of expressing myself. Everything I do is about breaking boundaries and staying true to my vision.
RM: “Deseo” blends reggaeton and R&B with lyrics in both English and Spanish. What inspired you to merge these styles and languages in this track?
Oscar Eriyal: I was born and raised in New York City, but my roots run deep in Latin America. My mom’s Bolivian, my dad’s Ecuadorian, and I spent part of my childhood living in Bolivia. That duality shaped me. I grew up moving between cultures, languages, and sounds. So for me, blending reggaeton with R&B and switching between English and Spanish isn’t just a stylistic choice, it’s who I am. “Deseo” is a love letter to both sides of my identity: the rhythm and soul of Latin America, and the raw, genre-bending spirit of NYC. I’m proud of where I come from, and I want my music to reflect that in everything I do.
RM: The song captures the heat of summer and late-night desire. How did you translate these moods into the music and lyrics?
Oscar Eriyal: I wanted the whole track to feel like an intense yet beautiful summer night. Humid air, city lights, bodies moving. The beat has that reggaeton bounce, smooth and sensual, like it’s swaying with you in the dark. Lyrically, I kept it confident yet intimate. It’s about longing, temptation, and that magnetic pull you feel when you’ve found your person. There’s a mix of romance and danger in it, like something beautiful you know might fall apart by sunrise. I didn’t overthink it; I just let myself feel, and the song followed.
RM: You describe “Deseo” as both seductive and innovative. How do you balance sensuality with musical experimentation in your work?
Oscar Eriyal: For me, it’s always about finding that sweet spot between emotion and evolution. I don’t just want to make a sexy song, I want to make a new sexy song. Something that hits in both the club and the bedroom, but sounds different from what’s out there. I’m always experimenting behind the scenes, but I never want the art to lose its soul. Some artists chase “different” so hard that they forget the point of music is to make people feel. My goal is to innovate without disconnecting from emotion. Express yourself authentically, and innovation follows naturally.

RM: How do your Latin roots influence your current music style and creative choices?
Oscar Eriyal: They influence everything in my life, not just my music. I’ve lived a life split between cultures and languages, and that duality shows up in my work naturally. I write in both English and Spanish because that’s how I think, how I feel. Latin music carries a passion and boldness that I bring into everything I make. It’s not about forcing my heritage into a track; it’s already in my blood. All I’m doing is honoring it in the most authentic way I can.
RM: What themes or emotions do you feel are most important for you to communicate through your music right now?
Oscar Eriyal: Right now, I’m focused on being real with myself and with my fans. Desire and regret, ego and insecurity, love and heartbreak. Messy, but human. A lot of us are walking contradictions, and I want my music to live in that complexity. One moment I’m full of confidence, the next I’m vulnerable or spiraling. That’s life. I’m not here to paint a perfect picture; that’s just boring. I’m here to tell the truth, even if it’s messy. My goal is to make people feel. Whether they’re dancing, in love, or driving at 3AM thinking about someone they lost.
RM: Who do you look up to (mentors, Role Models, Source of Inspiration?)
Oscar Eriyal: My family, always. They’re my biggest inspiration. I come from a line of hardworking, resilient people who made real sacrifices so I could even dream of doing what I do today. No matter how far I go, I carry their strength with me. It’s a reminder that success isn’t just about me, it’s about honoring where I come from and the people who made it possible.
RM: Any Dream Collaborations?
Oscar Eriyal: Too many. My list is long, haha. When it comes to producers, Pharrell and Rick Rubin are at the top. They’re both geniuses in completely different ways. Pharrell with his bounce and rhythm, Rick with his wisdom and minimalism. I’d also love to work with Tainy and Sky Rompiendo, they’ve shaped the modern Reggaeton sound and I feel like we’d cook up something special together. Artist-wise? Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, J Balvin, no question. Each of them represents a different part of the spectrum I move in: experimental, emotional, and global. But I’m big on energy and vision, so if the chemistry’s there, I’m open to working with anyone. Sometimes the most unexpected collabs turn out to be the most exciting.
RM: What’s Next? Any upcoming projects?
Oscar Eriyal: I’m always in the lab working on new music. But right now, my main focus is giving the music I’ve already released the spotlight it deserves. I want to push it as far as it can go, here in the States and across the world. It’s about building that global connection and making sure every song finds the people it’s meant to reach. That being said, there are some surprises on the way, some of my best work yet, but I’m keeping those cards close for now.
RM: Message to Fans and Readers
Oscar Eriyal: Thank you to everyone who’s been rocking with me from day one, and to those just discovering me now, welcome to the journey. Your support means everything, and it’s what fuels me to keep going harder every time. Stay locked in… we’re not just making music, we’re building a movement.
