Sometimes a song is more than just something to sing along to. It can be a reminder of what matters, a personal declaration of faith, or even a little encouragement to step outside your comfort zone. Echo The Light bring all three ideas together on “Send Me”, a worship-focused release built around the desire to serve God and use the gifts we have been given.
At the heart of the song is a deeply personal moment from vocalist and keyboardist Jessie. Written during a time of worship, “Send Me” grew out of her prayer for God to put her talents to use wherever they could make a difference. Its message is that faith should inspire action, encouraging people to carry God’s love beyond familiar surroundings and reach those who need to hear it.
That message also reflects the reason Echo The Light exists. The family band features Chris on guitar and bass, his wife Jessie on vocals and keys, and his brother-in-law Derek on drums. Their musical connection goes back around 18 years, beginning with casual jam sessions in Chris’s mother’s music room. After playing together in two different bands, they have now found a shared identity in Echo The Light, with a mission centred on faith, encouragement and enjoying the creative journey together.
Musically, “Send Me” brings together atmospheric modern-worship guitar work and a subtle Americana flavour. There is also a nostalgic edge to the guitar sound, particularly from the second chorus onwards, where the overdrive tones recall the character of 1990s and early 2000s rock. Chris handles most of the guitar and bass arrangements, while Jessie brings her own musical ideas into the mix. Derek’s percussion adds another important layer, helping give the track its fuller feel.
The recording took place at Bell Labs in Norman, Oklahoma, a studio that has become a familiar creative home for the trio. They have worked with producer Trent Bell since 2009, recording earlier EPs and a debut album under their previous band, Walking Relic, as well as material connected to Chris’s solo project, Schat & the Skeleton Trees. That long-standing relationship clearly means more than simply having a reliable place to record. Trent understands their creative direction while also bringing fresh ideas that help the music develop.
One particularly interesting moment came during the recording of “Send Me”, when the original plan for the ending changed. The song was initially expected to fade out, but Jessie liked the sound of the additional tracks that had been recorded. Trent experimented with the arrangement, and the band eventually settled on the more deliberate ending heard in the finished version. It’s a small studio decision that gave the song a different sense of completion.
What makes “Send Me” a fitting introduction to Echo The Light is the connection between its message and the band’s wider purpose. They want their music to encourage people to live out their faith, share God’s love and recognise that everyone has something meaningful to contribute. There is a genuine sense of togetherness behind that ambition, both in the song’s message and in the story of the three musicians who have spent nearly two decades finding their way here.
Echo The Light are still open to opportunities to bring their music to live audiences, but “Send Me” already offers a clear introduction to what they hope to share. It is a sincere expression of faith, wrapped in atmospheric guitars, warm musical influences and the chemistry of a band whose connection goes back many years.
