Singer-songwriter Dave Clark returns with his latest single, America, a bold and thought-provoking track that tackles themes of intolerance and marginalization in an increasingly divided world. Following the success of his previous release, Eyes on the Road, which expanded his audience and earned him new fans, Clark shifts gears with a song that carries a stronger narrative punch, all while maintaining his signature blend of expert guitar work, electronic textures, and unmistakable vocals.
Released on January 24th, America unfolds through the perspective of a fictional character, chronicling their hopes and downfall in a society that can be unforgiving and hostile. It’s a song with a message—something Clark believes is often missing in today’s music landscape. “With so many nice-sounding but bland songs out there, I wanted to write something that actually says something,” he explains. “This isn’t a personal story, but rather an attempt to highlight the rise of intolerance through someone else’s eyes. It’s in the tradition of the story song, but with a modern edge.”
The production, handled by Glenn Kerrigan, allows the song to breathe and flow while keeping the focus on the lyrics. The result is a track that is musical yet punchy, blending Clark’s sharp storytelling with a haunting sonic atmosphere.
Looking ahead to 2025, Clark has no plans to slow down. With more music on the way and a return to the studio, he’s also setting his sights on building his audience through live performances. “Writing and recording as a one-man band can be a bit lonely,” he admits. “Plus, it would feel hypocritical to write songs about real issues and not get out there to connect with real people.”
With America, Dave Clark solidifies his reputation as an artist unafraid to tackle weighty themes, proving that music can still be a powerful force for reflection and change
