Daddy Yankee, the iconic reggaeton artist, has announced a major life change coinciding with his retirement from music. During his recent farewell tour stop in Puerto Rico, he revealed his decision to dedicate his life to Christianity.
Taking to Instagram, Yankee shared a heartfelt message, calling this transition “the beginning of a brand new chapter.” He acknowledged the significance of this moment, stating, “Family: This day for me, is the most important day in my life.”
The message showcased his devotion to his newfound faith: “Tonight I recognize and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him.” He further emphasized the value of faith over worldly success, quoting the New Testament: “For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his life?”
A clip from his emotional Puerto Rico performance further emphasized his commitment to his new path. “Living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose,” he explained in Spanish. He acknowledged his past, stating, “I have to confess that those days are over.”
With a determined voice, Yankee declared, “Someone was able to fill that emptiness […] All the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me — is now for his kingdom.”
