DC3 Crowned Best Newcomer at MOBO Awards 2026

Rising star DC3 has been crowned Best Newcomer at the 2026 MOBO Awards, marking a breakthrough for the 19-year-old Northampton-based rapper and singer. The announcement came during the prestigious ceremony’s 30th anniversary edition, held on Thursday, 26 March at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester.

DC3, whose real name is Daniel Chenjerai, beat a competitive shortlist that included EsDeeKid, Finessekid, Jim Legxacy, Kwn, Namesbliss, Nia Smith, Sekou, Skye Newman, and YT. The Best Newcomer category, voted for by the public, recognises the most promising new talent in Black British music.

In a historic double victory, DC3 also picked up the Best Gospel Act award, becoming the first artist to win both categories in the same year. He was visibly emotional on stage, shedding tears as he accepted the Best Newcomer trophy.

Speaking after the wins, DC3 described the night as “just sick,” while dedicating his success to his faith, family, and roots. In a post on X, he wrote: “Best Newcomer and Best Gospel Act at 19. This is for every Seventh-Day Adventist, Northampton, Christian Rap, Zimbabwe, and the UK. But above all, my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

The independent artist, known for blending rap with Christian themes, has gained significant attention through viral tracks and his authentic approach to faith-infused music. His dual wins highlight both industry recognition and strong public support for gospel music crossing into mainstream spaces.

The 2026 MOBO Awards celebrated three decades of championing Black music and culture, with the move to Manchester adding fresh energy to the event. Hosted by Eve and Eddie Kadi, the night featured standout performances and tributes across genres.

DC3’s victory signals the arrival of a new generation of artists unafraid to merge spiritual messages with contemporary rap and R&B sounds. This appears to be only the beginning for the young talent.

Congratulations to DC3 on a memorable night that cements his status as one to watch in 2026 and beyond.
