Irish alternative rapper and singer KhakiKid returns with his first single of the year, “Favela,” alongside the announcement of his forthcoming five-track EP, Girl Bites Dog, set for release on April 17th. The project will feature appearances from fellow Irish artist Kojaque and Joe Butler, marking an exciting new chapter for one of Ireland’s most compelling young voices.
The news arrives fresh off a landmark sold-out headline show at Dublin’s iconic 3Olympia Theatre — a defining career moment that cemented KhakiKid’s status as a leading force in Ireland’s alternative scene.
Collaboratively produced by F3miii and Louis Stanley Isaac, “Favela” is a vibrant, genre-blending release that captures KhakiKid’s signature versatility. Soulful yet playful, the track balances razor-sharp lyricism with an infectious chorus, drawing comparisons to fan favourite “Date Nite.” Seamlessly weaving together rap, R&B, and indie influences, the production provides the perfect backdrop for KhakiKid’s fluid shifts between dynamic verses and melodic hooks.
Storytelling remains at the heart of his artistry. Unfiltered, humorous, and emotionally candid, KhakiKid’s writing explores the contradictions of modern young adulthood with clarity and wit. With a rare balance of vulnerability and self-awareness, he transforms personal experiences into sharp cultural commentary, offering a perspective shaped by the complexities of his mid-twenties.
The EP’s title, Girl Bites Dog, cleverly flips the familiar phrase “man bites dog” — where the unexpected becomes headline-worthy — serving as a fitting metaphor for an artist who consistently subverts expectations. On “Favela,” KhakiKid emerges as a fully realised creative force: confident in his identity, comfortable navigating sincerity and satire, and fearless in pushing sonic boundaries.
Born and raised in Dublin, KhakiKid real name Abdu began writing raps at just 12 years old, inspired by the storytelling of Eminem and 50 Cent, as well as the groundbreaking grime visuals of Channel U. Over time, he carved out a sound entirely his own — offbeat, emotionally resonant, and shaped by influences such as Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller, and Irish contemporaries including Bricknasty and Kojaque.
Renowned for his inventive wordplay and hands-on creative direction, KhakiKid writes, records, directs, and edits his own material. Themes of identity, belonging, and heritage run throughout his work. Having grown up on a council estate in Dublin and spoken openly about living with ADHD while reconnecting with his Arab-Irish roots, he brings refreshing authenticity and emotional depth to his music.
His live performances have become a defining feature of his rise — energetic, heartfelt, and magnetic. Career highlights include performances at Electric Picnic, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, and sharing stages with artists such as Maverick Sabre and Rejjie Snow.
“Favela” builds on the momentum of his acclaimed 2025 single “Moved On” and follows his celebrated EP Moanbag, which featured breakout track “Date Nite,” performed live on The Late Late Show.
