Devon-based blues-rock outfit BLUEJAY are set to perform at Phoenix, Exeter, as they look to continue their dynamic rise through the ranks of guitar music. Alongside special guests, the band will appear for one night only, on the back of the acclaimed release of their latest EP, ‘Prime’.
The band will top an emphatic bill, featuring the likes of Exeter-grown outfit Machineries of Joy, and the Devon-based Heartwood and Chasing Zeros. Each loaded with their roaring, blues-driven prowess, the gig is set to be a show to remember.
Released last Autumn, the new release has been received graciously by fans and even generated a buzz Stateside. Featuring big riffs and sticky melodies, ‘Prime’ showcases a band at the top of their game. Stretching from floor-filling anthems and honest heart-on-sleeve lyricism, the release sees the group incorporate that nostalgic blues sound with the no-holds-barred thump of the modern day.
Diving into their creative process, the band explains, “We have improved this over the years, and it’s got quite a nice rhythm to it now. Jez and I are always coming up with riffs which we hastily get onto any recorded format, usually a quick film. All of us know that a good and powerful riff is everything in rock. When it comes to lyrics, I’m always making notes on my phone as phrases that I hear or just come into my head – often in the shower! If I get a line or two or a melody, I then need to get it down in some way as soon as possible, else it’s gone! After I get a demo together, I then have the nervous moment of presenting to the rest of the band. It’s a bit like handing over a baby…”
Hailing from Devon, BLUEJAY play rock ‘n’ roll the only way they know how with high energy, intensity designed to get your feet moving. Fusing years of gigging experience with their surf culture, the band have honed their explosive live show to feature classic crowd pleasers and their own head-turning anthems. Forming in 2015, the group was initially conceived as a three-piece before two additional members were brought into the blues-rock song machine. Releasing their debut shortly after, they have been bolstered by BBC Introducing SW, whilst even drumming up support from listeners across the pond in the USA and South America.
