Indie-grunge chargers Bachhanal has released their eclectic seven-track EP DIY Lobotomy. It fires the starting gun on a 2025 already brimming with promise and momentum, as they take their roaring stage presence to the studio.
Whether it’s the surging tension of ‘Face for Balaclava pt1’, the contemporary indie fizz of ‘Pillow Talk’ or the dark, complex sonic storytelling of ‘SeeSaw’, the band build their arrangements around unstoppable instrumentation. Guitar tones are fuzzy and raw, drums are relentless, and the bass is rich and foundational. Lyrically, they’re a band undeterred by any topic, combining poignant commentary with a charming facetious undertone.

“We originally wrote the record last year,” the band adds, “but ended up scrapping it; the songs were just too long. So, we went back to square one, aiming for shorter tracks, and added a few extra tunes to keep things interesting. The EP explores themes of regret, love, debauchery, insurance claims & daydreams.”
Inspired by Eric Cantona and with a penchant for carousels, Bacchanal are Surrey natives who tolerate making noise together. The three-piece is made up of Longman, Jefferson and Morris, infusing a mixture of grunge, indie, pop, prog, and rock into a groovy sound tinged with harmonics and bends.
Bacch takes great pride in switching up the tempo and exploring the themes ranging from ulcers to trees, dreams to attire, and, perhaps most importantly, mediocrity. Having gigged monthly since June 2021, Bacch has no plans to slow down.
Bachhanal’s ‘DIY Lobotomy’ is an exhilarating blend of indie-grunge energy, showcasing their ability to tackle a wide range of themes with both raw intensity and a playful charm.
