Rotate Talk With Yoni – “Climate” Interview

Yoni isn’t just an artist — he’s an idea brought to life. Described as both a real creative force and a figment of imagination, Yoni represents the embodiment of everything he’s worked toward, channeling lived experiences and inner reflections into music that feels intentional and deeply personal. His latest single, “Climate,” captures the fragile space where love and timing fail to align — a connection that feels right, but exists in the wrong season. Drawing from personal experience and layered with emotional symbolism, the track blends cinematic storytelling with raw honesty. In this conversation, Yoni opens up about identity, collaboration, symbolism, and the emotional world behind “Climate.”

First of All who is Yoni?

Yoni: Yoni is an artist who makes music from a real place. Yoni is also a figment of my imagination, almost like the embodiment of everything that I’ve worked towards in my life. And the music has been a way I translate those feelings into something people can connect with.

What inspired the song Climate, and what story were you hoping to tell?

Yoni: Climate was inspired by an emotional space where the love and its timing didn’t line up. There was a connection but the environment wasn’t built to sustain it. Finding the right thing at the wrong time.

“Climate” captures that bittersweet feeling of loving someone who has to leave. Was this drawn from a personal experience?

Yoni: Yea this song was made from a personal experience I had. It’s about a girl I met in a city where we both temporarily lived. We had a connection but we knew our future paths led in different directions.

What does the title “Climate” symbolize for you in the context of the song?

Yoni: I used the title “Climate” to symbolize the emotional shifts I was experiencing when interacting with the girl I wrote it about. It’s an exaggerated take but many people have a different emotion tied to different seasons or sunshine VS. rain. And I like to use symbolism a lot to describe how I’m feeling in my music.

Is “Climate” a standalone moment, or does it hint at a bigger project on the way?

Yoni: It’s a standalone moment, but it definitely hints at a bigger picture. Climate represents the direction I’m moving in sonically and emotionally. There’s more music coming that builds on that same world and depth.

Growing up as an Eritrean-American, how has that shaped your musical perspective and storytelling?

Yoni: Growing up Eritrean American gave me a strong sense of duality, balancing different cultures, expectations, and identities. That naturally shows up in my music. It taught me how to see things from multiple angles.

You’ve also collaborated with producers and engineers with major credits. How has working with that caliber of talent elevated your sound?

Yoni: Yea I’ve been blessed at this point to have collaborated with some producers and engineers with major credits, and people that I’m a huge fan of. I think working with those people has helped me hone my skills and collaborative capabilities, and soak up game for sure. But more importantly majority of the people I work with i have chemistry with, so the music just comes naturally and nothing feels forced, that’s my favorite part about collaboration.

If “Climate” were a movie, what genre would it be?

Yoni: If “Climate” was a movie, it would probably be a romantic drama, probably very cinematic or something. Maybe I’ll do a short film down the line.

What do you want listeners to feel when they hear your music for the first time?

Yoni: When people discover my music, I want them to feel excited. not necessarily because of the mood of the music or even the message behind it. More so because that feeling you get when u find a song or artist that you really, really like and u get that specific itch in your brain scratched, and u can’t help but play that song or artist catalogue over and over again, that’s one of my favorite feelings in the world. And that’s the feeling I wanna share with the people who discover or support me, that’s the kind of artist I aim to be.

With “Climate,” Yoni leans fully into emotional vulnerability, crafting a song that feels both intimate and universally relatable.
