PHWOAR Shine a Light Through the Darkness with “Waiting for the Sun”

Birmingham-based alternative indie rock duo PHWOAR kick off 2025 with Waiting for the Sun, a track that transforms hope into rebellion and reminds us that even in our darkest moments, the light will eventually break through. Released on January 20, Blue Monday (often dubbed the most depressing day of the year), which coincidentally is the day of the U.S. presidential inauguration in 2025, the song serves as a powerful counter-message: mental health struggles aren’t a marketing tool, and resilience isn’t for sale.

With Paul thrashing on guitar, Helena pounding the drums, and both delivering raw, impassioned vocals, Waiting for the Sun packs an explosive energy that feels both defiant and uplifting. The track’s gritty DIY sensibilities, layered with catchy hooks and emotive intensity, make it a rallying cry for anyone fighting through tough times. PHWOAR doesn’t just acknowledge the struggle—they turn it into an anthem of perseverance.

This is just the beginning of an exciting year for PHWOAR, as they gear up to release their upcoming EP, Flowers Through the Concrete, in April. With Adrian Hall (Tori Amos, Nova Twins, Depeche Mode) on production, mixing, and mastering, the band’s bold, no-nonsense approach to alternative indie rock is set to make waves. Following Waiting for the Sun, expect the next singles, Reckless (Feb 21) and Surge (Mar 14), to continue the momentum.

For now, though, as winter drags on and the world feels heavy, PHWOAR reminds us that no storm lasts forever. Sometimes, you just have to keep waiting for the sun.
