Salford’s own experimental collective, Patchwork Rattlebag, have unveiled their latest single “Vertigo Dreams”, the second glimpse into their forthcoming debut album Fragments 1. Known for their boundary-blurring sound and immersive artistry, the trio once again prove that their creativity knows no limits.
Where their previous single “Hook, Line and Riser” leaned into glitchy dystopian electronica, “Vertigo Dreams” drifts into softer, more introspective territory. It’s a hauntingly beautiful detour—filled with breezy acoustic textures, pulsing vibraphones, and ghostly vocal harmonies that linger long after the final note. Here, the electronic flourishes that usually define their sound slip quietly into the background, allowing an emotive singer-songwriter core to shine through.
Patchwork Rattlebag, made up of three core members united by curiosity and collaboration, often pull inspiration from multiple artforms—merging the visual, audible, and even ineffable into something wholly their own. With “Vertigo Dreams”, they tap into the tender tension between contentment and insecurity, aspiration and surrender, dreams and nightmares. The result is an ethereal folk-inspired soundscape that recalls the melancholic beauty of artists like Nick Drake and Gravenhurst.
Accompanying the single is a hypnotic DIY-shot video that perfectly captures the song’s dreamy spirit. Featuring starry skies, open fields, and the quiet grandeur of derelict buildings, it mirrors the song’s emotional exploration—serene, strange, and subtly transcendent.
“Vertigo Dreams” isn’t just a song—it’s an invitation to lose yourself in the delicate balance between light and shadow, a place where introspection meets imagination
