Mahalia Returns With New EP “Luvergirl”

Mahalia is stepping into a new era with the release of Luvergirl, a seven-track project that salutes her Jamaican roots while ushering in a more hopeful and self-assured chapter of her artistry.

Known for her candid reflections and unflinching honesty, the Midlands-born singer takes her storytelling deeper than ever before on luvergirl. Drawing inspiration from the Caribbean sounds that defined fan-favourites like Simmer, the project is both a celebration of her dual heritage and a personal exploration of how it has shaped her understanding of love.

The project’s all-Jamaican guest lineup mirrors its cultural heart. Rising dancehall stars Masicka and Bayka bring fiery energy, while new-gen reggae singer Lila Iké balances the collection with soulful warmth. At its centre, reggae legend Tanya Stephens makes a commanding appearance on Pity—a track that pays homage to her classic It’s A Pity with a sample and newly recorded vocals from Stephens herself.

Speaking on the project, Mahalia shares: “This project is a love letter to the woman I am right now. A love letter to love in all its forms and me in all of mine. I made a lot of this music in the Caribbean—Jamaica mostly. Being out there has allowed me to reconnect with myself in a way I haven’t before. Being a dual heritage kid growing up in the Midlands, I struggled to navigate most things, love specifically. Making this project really allowed me to figure out some internal struggles I hadn’t realised I’d been dealing with. It felt like my moment to experience the magic I have in me as a young woman, and I think that magic is in the music too.”

With Luvergirl, Mahalia bridges past and present, paying homage to her heritage while stepping boldly into a brighter future. The project is not just a return—it’s a reintroduction.
