Raleigh-based indie rock trio Goddamn Wolves return with their latest single, “I Hate This Song,” a track that fuses classic alt-rock grit with modern indie energy.
The song highlights the band’s signature male/female vocal harmonies, delivering a sound that’s “energetic, powerful, and raw, striking a balance between catchiness and defiance” (R+ Music Blog). Seven years into their career, the trio sounds tighter than ever, with “I Hate This Song” showcasing their evolved chemistry.
Guitarist Chris explains the collaborative process: “‘I Hate This Song’ is very much a collaborative effort. I started with the rough outline, but Laura wrote the melody and lyrics for the chorus, and Drew helped with the rhythm of the riff.’* Vocalist Laura adds that this approach allows them to explore new creative territory: “This level of group creativity lets us go places musically and lyrically that we haven’t visited before.” The track even leans into humor, name-checking their hometown and the band itself—a playful twist for the group.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Max Gowan at Found After Dark Audio in Raleigh (their go-to studio since 2023), “I Hate This Song” hints at a potential vinyl LP release in the near future. For now, it stands as a sharp, defiant, and tightly crafted addition to their growing discography.
With snarling riffs and sly self-awareness, ‘I Hate This Song’ proves Goddamn Wolves haven’t just sharpened their sound—they’re having more fun with it too
