Twenty years into their journey, Colorado duo A Shoreline Dream are looking back at everything it has taken to build one of the region’s most enduring independent music projects. Their new single, ‘Legacy’, arrives via Latenight Weeknight Records as the band enters its anniversary year with nearly 120 tracks behind them and plenty more still ahead.
Formed in 2005 and based in Barnum, Colorado, A Shoreline Dream consists of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Ryan Policky and guitarist Erik Jeffries. Across two decades, the pair have developed a distinctive sound that brings together shoegaze, psychedelia, post-punk and expansive guitar experimentation.
‘Legacy’ captures the complicated emotions that come with reaching such a significant milestone. Musically, the track builds from a heavy, bass-driven foundation into a towering chorus filled with cascading guitars and layered vocals. Its immersive shoegaze character gives the song a sense of scale, while its lyrics turn inward to consider the choices and sacrifices that have shaped the band’s story.
At the heart of the song is a question about what gets left behind after dedicating so much of life to music. While many people measure time through conventional milestones, Policky and Jeffries have spent theirs writing, recording, producing and continually refining A Shoreline Dream. ‘Legacy’ confronts the possibility that the music itself may ultimately be the most lasting result of those decisions.
That reflection comes at an especially active point for the duo. Instead of slowing down for their 20th anniversary, A Shoreline Dream have made 2026 one of their busiest creative periods, committing to a new single every month while simultaneously working on ‘Waiting’, their second full-length album of the year.
Scheduled for October 16, ‘Waiting’ will feature nine tracks and follows an already prolific run of releases. The album represents the next chapter rather than a conclusion, with ‘Legacy’ serving as a moment to acknowledge the road travelled before continuing forward.
The band’s recent momentum has also been fueled by an important creative relationship with Ride frontman Mark Gardener. Through their partnership with Shameless Promotion PR, Policky and Gardener connected for a series of recording sessions that produced five songs on which they collaborated as performers and producers. Their latest work together appears on February’s ‘To Where They Have Gone’.
Gardener is part of a wider connection between A Shoreline Dream and the UK alternative music community. Over the years, the band have also worked with Ulrich Schnauss and collaborated with members of Engineers and Chapterhouse, alongside connections to Rocket Girl Records and mastering engineer Mark Kramer, known for his work with Urge Overkill and Bongwater.
For Policky, the creative energy surrounding 2026 has been particularly strong. Working with Gardener reignited his appetite for constant songwriting, with new melodies continuing to arrive and influence the band’s current output.
That renewed drive has also become a response to the increasingly chaotic world around them. Rather than attempting to mirror the noise, A Shoreline Dream are channeling it into music that is loud, melodic and immersive, offering listeners a space to escape into expansive sound.
With ‘Legacy’, the duo acknowledge the personal cost of maintaining such a long-running creative partnership while refusing to become defined by the past. Twenty years of music may provide plenty to look back on, but A Shoreline Dream are clearly more interested in what can still be created.
