Goodmonster Howls with Ambition on New EP “The Wolf Is Young”

Sydney folk-rock outfit Goodmonster returns with their latest EP, The Wolf Is Young, a self-produced collection that immerses listeners in the band’s signature blend of haunting atmospheres and emotionally raw storytelling. Across six tracks, the EP navigates between introspective reflection and moments of expansive release, showing off the band’s growing confidence and sonic ambition.

The previously released singles King of the Sea and Scream set the tone, balancing intimate lyricism with surging, guitar-driven energy. New tracks like Sisyphus, When You Least Expect, Dig Down, and A Whispering expand the EP’s palette in exciting ways. Sisyphus pulses with hypnotic Turkish percussion, while A Whispering layers ghostly banjo lines over ethereal melodies, creating moments that are both haunting and strangely uplifting. Thematically, the songs explore mortality, devotion, and the quiet pressures of adult life, capturing the restless urge to break free even amidst responsibility.

Frontman Dylan Reisch explains, “The Wolf Is Young is about that restless part of you that never quite settles. Even when life fills up with responsibilities, there’s still something inside that wants to howl.” The EP’s combination of brooding folk textures, dynamic guitar work, and evocative storytelling positions Goodmonster somewhere between the emotional surge of Gang of Youths, Hozier’s shadowed folk, and the nocturnal, cinematic quality of Lord Huron.

With The Wolf Is Young, Goodmonster is cementing their place as masters of emotionally charged folk-rock
