Miss Freddye Releases Heartfelt New Single “Slippin’ Away”

There is something timeless about a great blues ballad. It does not need flashy production or complicated arrangements. All it really needs is honesty, soul, and a voice that can carry real emotion. Miss Freddye delivers exactly that on her heartfelt single “Slippin’ Away.”

Known affectionately as Pittsburgh’s “Lady of the Blues,” Miss Freddye brings deep feeling and experience to this moving track. Released on June 14, 2024, “Slippin’ Away” explores the quiet heartbreak that comes when love begins to fade. The song reflects on uncertainty, memories, and the painful realization that a relationship may be drifting beyond repair.

Written by the late Mike Lyzenga on February 25, 2018, the track carries a sense of emotional sincerity that feels deeply personal. Miss Freddye’s interpretation transforms the song into a powerful tribute, honoring the songwriter’s vision while adding her own soulful perspective. Her voice moves through the lyrics with warmth and vulnerability, capturing the lingering sadness of a love slowly slipping out of reach.

The song was produced by Miss Freddye herself and recorded at Red Caiman Media in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. Musically, the arrangement stays true to classic blues traditions, allowing the emotion to take center stage. A talented group of musicians supports the performance, including Mike Huston on guitar, Jeff Conner on keys, Greg Sejko on bass, and Bob Dicola on drums. Their playing provides a rich, steady backdrop that lets the song breathe and unfold naturally.

Miss Freddye’s journey into music began early in life through singing in church, where her powerful voice first found its purpose. Inspired by the blues records her mother loved, she eventually stepped into the blues scene in 1996 when she joined Blues Music Works under the direction of Big Al Leavitt. From there she continued building her presence, forming Blue Faze in 2002 before launching Miss Freddye’s Blues Band and the Miss Freddye’s Homecookin Band.

Over the years, she has built a reputation as a passionate performer who brings both electric and acoustic blues to audiences with authenticity and heart. Influenced by legendary voices like Koko Taylor, Etta James, and Big Mama Thornton, Miss Freddye carries forward the emotional storytelling that has always defined the genre.

Beyond music, she has also used her platform to support charitable causes, contributing to organizations such as Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, veteran initiatives, and Band Together Pittsburgh. Her dedication to both community and music has earned her multiple Iron City Rocks Awards for Best Blues Band along with nominations from the Blues Foundation.

“Slippin’ Away” stands as another powerful chapter in her musical journey. With its soulful atmosphere and deeply felt delivery, the song reminds listeners why the blues continues to resonate across generations. It is honest, heartfelt, and delivered with the kind of passion that only true blues artists can bring.

‘Slippin’ Away’ is a deeply soulful blues ballad, carried by powerful vocals that turn heartbreak into a moving musical experience.
