Brooklyn legends They Might Be Giants have officially announced their forthcoming 18-song LP, The World Is to Dig, arriving April 14 in all formats via TMBGshop.com and on streaming platforms. An exclusive 180-gram color vinyl variant will also be available at independent retail shops beginning April 17.
The album marks the band’s first full-length release since 2021’s Grammy-nominated BOOK, and finds TMBG once again balancing sharp, literate songwriting with fearless experimentation. The result is a refreshingly inventive collection that expands their unmistakable sound while remaining rooted in their melodic core.
Out now alongside the announcement is the album’s lead single and visualizer, “Wu-Tang.” The track cleverly celebrates the transformative power of Wu-Tang Clan on an adoring fan, all delivered through TMBG’s signature melodic lens. Bright, ‘60s-inspired pop hooks carry the song forward, offering a playful contrast to its hip-hop homage.
John Linnell shares insight into the track’s origins: “Many years ago, we discussed the idea of celebrating an artist or a style of music, but in the form of a completely unrelated genre of music. The original idea was a Tin Pan Alley-style song extolling the greatness of heavy metal. ‘Wu-Tang’ was written more or less along those lines, partly inspired by their TV biopic, but void of any musical reference to the great hip-hop collective. Are we fans? Sure! Would we ever attempt to emulate their sound? Not publicly.”
Fresh off two years of sold-out touring, They Might Be Giants will return to the road this spring with The Bigger Show Tour, kicking off April 17. The run includes multi-night stands across the East Coast and Midwest, with stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Woodstock.
Each multi-night residency promises a completely unique show. Performing in the “An Evening with” format — meaning no opener — the band will take the stage with an eight-piece lineup featuring a three-piece horn section. Every night’s first set will spotlight a different album from their catalog, while the second set will deliver fan favorites alongside deep cuts.
Sprawling, unpredictable, and endlessly entertaining, The Bigger Show Tour offers dazzling arrangements, spontaneous improvisation, and the unmistakable wit and warmth that have defined They Might Be Giants for decades.
With The World Is to Dig, the band once again proves that evolution and originality remain at the heart of their enduring legacy.
