The journey behind this release reads like destiny. While in Barcelona supporting a friend at an exhibition at the Barcelona Art Museum, Nomina met American artist Jane Cooper. What began as a chance encounter grew into a meaningful friendship, with Jane becoming a vocal supporter of Nomina’s artistry. That connection eventually led to Mike Himelstein, who, after hearing her casually released track “Rice” (which later picked up nominations in London), immediately recognized her potential. He sent her two songs, strongly believing that “God’s Gift to the World” was hers to interpret.
And she didn’t take that lightly.
Determined to honour the song’s legacy, Nomina searched for the right production partner before finding creative alignment with Mr. Brown. Their collaboration unfolded across Botswana, Germany, and South Africa, culminating in sessions at Mr. Brown’s studio filled with warmth and live musicianship. A live guitarist added texture, and when a full choir wasn’t possible, Mr. Brown — a vocalist himself — stepped in to layer harmonies.
But the process wasn’t without hardship. During recording, Nomina faced vocal struggles that led to the discovery of a growth on her vocal cord. With surgery on the table, she chose perseverance, adjusting and pushing through as singing became physically taxing. That resilience is woven into every note of the final track.
