Allyson Whitmell Captures the Bittersweet Feeling of Goodbye in ‘Crack in My Window’

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Allyson Whitmell delivers a hauntingly beautiful ode to nostalgia with her latest single, Crack in My Window. Blending elements of pop, jazz, and musical theatre, Allyson crafts an intimate and cinematic listening experience, evoking the emotion of leaving behind a cherished place.

Inspired by a small yet poignant memory—an old window that never quite closed properly—Crack in My Window encapsulates the grief, gratitude, and longing that accompany moving on. With delicate piano arrangements and soul-stirring violin melodies, the song creates a wistful, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The production, helmed by Ben Pelchat, masterfully enhances Allyson’s evocative storytelling, while Jono Hill (Bridgerton) brings the instrumentation to life with his expressive string work.

Allyson’s intimate yet powerful voice serves as the emotional anchor of the track, reminiscent of artists like Sara Bareilles, Laufey, and Lizzy McAlpine. Her ability to capture vivid moments in time through music makes Crack in My Window universally relatable, resonating with anyone who has ever had to say goodbye—whether to a place, a person, or a chapter of life.

A classically trained musician, Allyson holds a degree in Piano Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in both piano and voice. While pursuing her Master’s in Applied Music and Health, studying Neurologic Music Therapy, she continues to carve out a space for herself in the singer-songwriter world.

With Crack in My Window, Allyson Whitmell proves that it’s often the smallest details that hold the deepest emotions—and she captures them with elegance, grace, and undeniable musical artistry.
